Mermaid snatches Bulawayo woman

A woman from Mandalay Farm in Bulawayo outskirts has been saved by her mother and other fishermen after she was snatched by a suspected mermaid while fishing at the Mandalay Dam.

Berina Community Radio described the incident as stranger than fiction and said the woman was dragged into water by the suspected mermaid, a mysterious creature vested with super-natural powers.

“In a stranger than fiction case, a woman was allegedly rescued from a mermaid today at Mandalay Farm Dam popularly known as KwaHeya,” reported the radio.

“The young woman Trish Mantle aged 18 of Sabonabona was fishing and having a big catch while her mother was washing clothes just a few metres away. There suddenly started strong waves, the women claimed, in no time the woman was pulled into the water amidst some whistling sounds.”

The radio reported that Mantle then screamed alerting the mother and some other men who were fishing who rushed and pulled her out of the water by which time she was unconscious.

“The mother then administered first aid. Witnesses claim that they saw unusually big waves and heard the whistling sounds,” reported the radio.

“They all seem to believe that the lady was about to be taken by a mermaid. Questioned if it was not a freak accident, the witness refuted that theory claiming that she was a little distance away from the water and in any case she was fishing at a shallow place. Do mermaids really exist maybe someone out there can explain to us?”

2 Zimbabwean Buses Hijacked in South Africa

TWO Zimbabwean buses have been attacked by armed highway robbers in South Africa. The buses, Eagle Liner and Citiliner that were headed for Johannesburg, were attacked within a space of two days.

Citiliner was attacked on Tuesday and Eagleliner early yesterday morning.

The attacks come barely a month after a Johannesburg-bound Intercape bus was hijacked near Hammanskraal by armed robbers in the early hours of the morning.

Officials from the two bus companies confirmed the attacks yesterday.

They said a wave of highway robberies had been experienced on the route in the past five weeks.

Eagle Liner passengers lost valuables such as cash, cellphones and other gadgets to robbers who struck during the early hours of yesterday.

“The bus was stopped by three armed men at around 2AM and they demanded that we hand over all the money we had and cellphones and out of fear we just complied and they disappeared,” said the passenger who declined to be named.

Passengers on the Citiliner were lucky to escape the robbery as a police van arrived just in time

“As the bus neared a bridge in Polokwane the robbers flagged down the bus and ordered the driver to pull off the road but we were saved by a police van that suddenly appeared and the robbers fled the scene without robbing anyone,” said one of the passengers who identified himself as Ndlovu.

Passengers from both buses told The Chronicle yesterday that armed robbers who waylay buses were now making South Africa a no-go area.

“We’re now afraid of travelling, especially as cross border traders because we will be carrying lots of cash to buy goods for resale at home. With this continued spate of robberies we cannot carry large sums of money and this affects our businesses,” said Ndlovu.

He accused bus drivers of working in cahoots with the robbers, pointing out that they now knew the attack hotspots but were not taking measures to improve passengers’ security.

“The bus drivers could be part of the syndicate hence are reluctant to take measures to guarantee our safety ” he said.

An official from Eagle Liner in Johannesburg who dentified himself as Marimo said yesterday’s robbery was their first.

“The robberies have been going on for the past four to five weeks but we had not been attacked until today. We’ve since instructed our drivers not to stop along the away but sometimes they’re blocked by the robbers and there is nothing they can do,” said Marimo.

He said there were 13 passengers on the bus that was attacked in Modimole, an area between Johannesburg and Polokwane.

Marimo said cross border traders and the South African police were engaged in talks to deal with the rise in robbery cases. “I can’t give more information on the issue but call tomorrow when our principals are back from Harare,” he said.

Citiliner human resources manager Grant Fleetwood said the police’s timely intervention saved his bus’ passengers.

“I can confirm that there was an attempted robbery on one of our buses between Johannesburg and Polokwane but fortunately police intervened just in time,” said Fleetwood.

South African provincial police spokesperson for Limpopo, Colonel Ronel Otto was not available for comment as her phone was on voice mail.

Tsvangirai Faces Arrest! Mugabe says

Image

PRESIDENT Mugabe yesterday warned MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai that he faces arrest if he announces election results before their release by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec).Mr Tsvangirai told his supporters at a rally in Domboshava on Friday that his party would collate all results posted outside polling stations and announce them.

In terms of the Electoral Act, only Zec has the mandate to announce election results.
Addressing thousands of Zanu-PF supporters at the party’s last star rally at the National Sports Stadium in Harare, President Mugabe said Mr Tsvangirai’s remarks were “shocking”.

“What kind of madness is that? I have never heard such a statement coming from a Prime Minister, even in the whole of Africa. Who gave you that right Tsvangirai when we have an electoral body that is mandated to do that?

“I can warn you in advance that if you break the law, you will be arrested. He who breaks the law will be arrested. We will arrest you Tsvangirai,” he said.

President Mugabe described Mr Tsvangirai as a cry baby who is scared of losing the election.
“He is a cry baby of all the parties,” he said.

Poll surveys have predicted Mr Tsvangirai and his party will lose Wednesday’s polls. And the MDC-T leader has lately been challenging the readiness of Zec to hold election and the positive assessment by election observers of the political climate in the country.

Last week, he accused Zec and the African Union of conniving with President Mugabe to rig the 31 July poll.
President Mugabe dismissed Mr Tsvangirai’s rigging claims saying he has never stolen an election since he assumed leadership of Zimbabwe at independence in 1980.

He said Mr Tsvangirai was merely crying foul because it has become increasingly evident that he would lose the elections.
Mr Tsvangirai said he would collate and announce the election results to deny Zec the opportunity to rig the poll but observers have said this was intended to foment unrest in the country to attract foreign intervention.

TB Joshau Speaks on Zim Elections

Image

Mixed messages erupted at the weekend from followers of Nigerian preacher TB Joshua, after the latter’s church denied the prophet uttered a prophecy on Zimbabwe’s upcoming elections.

TB Joshua’s own followers had said they heard the prophet predict election doom in an African country and how three thousand people would die after an opposition party has won. One Facebooker wrote: “TB Joshua prophesied saying three thousand are going to die in a country holding elections in recent days. I pray for life and I rebuke any death by violence in Jesus Name! Amen.”

The report was also apparently confirmed by Facebook secret leaker, Baba Jukwa re-sounded the alleged prophecy. The mixed messages follow another prediction on the death of Malawi’s former president Bingu Mutharika last year in February which soon after TB Joshua uttered it, other followers of the prophet calling themselves TB Joshua Watch issued a press statement claiming that TB Joshua had not made the prophetic utterance at all, something which turned out to be untrue.

But the church on Saturday issued the following statement denying the prophet ever uttered the prediction on Zimbabwe’s elections.

By TB Joshua Ministries

“The Zimbabwean Elections And Prophet TB Joshua.

Attention. This is an official message from The SCOAN. There are false rumours and articles spreading on the internet that Prophet TB Joshua prophesied concerning the Zimbabwean election. This is false. Prophet TB Joshua did not prophesy anything regarding the presidential election in Zimbabwe.

If there is any message concerning the nation of Zimbabwe, it will be officially broadcast on Emmanuel TV and on our official websites, www.scoan.org and www.emmanuel.tv Beware of false rumours. Don’t listen to the father of lies, the sons of lies and the daughters of lies.

Please, do not sit somewhere, hear this or that and come to a hasty conclusion. God requires that we find out the truth from Him first and hold fast to that which is true, as the Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 5:21.”

Tsvangirai a powerful sex bull: Theresa Makone says

MDC-T women’s assembly chairperson Mrs Theresa Makone, who is the party’s candidate for Harare North on Thursday hailed Mr Tsvangirai’s sexcapades describing her boss as a “bull”. Mrs Makone, who is also Home Affairs co-Minister in the inclusive Government, said the philandering proved the MDC-T was full of real men.

Addressing a rally in Hatcliffe, Harare Mrs Makone on said: “Hapana akarepwa (no one was raped). Pakawandwa ndopavanoda vakadzi kunzwa kuti pane chiiko? (Women are curious about the prowess of philanderers)”

Kwedu mabhuru ndiko kwaakawanda. Hakuna ngochani (our party is full of bulls, we do not have gays).”

Mrs Makone’s comments drew fire from a cross-section of women yesterday who expressed concern saying her utterances were not expected from a woman of her standing.

Zanu-PF Women’s League secretary for information and publicity Cde Monica Mutsvangwa rapped Mrs  Makone for defending what was morally reprehensible.

“It is unfortunate for someone who is mandated with leading a ministry that protects people including women and children to be making such reckless statements, trying to defend something that is morally wrong,” she said.

Since the death of his wife, Susan, in 2009, Mr Tsvangirai hit the headlines for the wrong reasons by dating a string of woman whom he unceremoniously dumped.

He married Ms Locadia Karimatsenga Tembo for 12 days before dumping her citing undue media attention. He was then linked to current wife Elizabeth Macheka, whom he could not wed in a civil ceremony, in the wake of a court challenge by Ms Karimatsenga Tembo, whom he had to buy off with a US$300 000 pay out but not before another woman – Nosipho Shilubane – emerged from South Africa saying she had been promised marriage before being dumped by text message.

Mr Tsvangirai’s philandering was exposed when reports emerged that he had impregnated a 21-year old Bulawayo woman, Ms Loretta Nyathi, before refusing to take responsibility for the boy born of that union, Ethan, whom he couldn’t even afford a birth certificate,
Mr Tsvangirai was also linked to a married woman, one Aquillina Pamberi and a Dr Arikana Chihombori.

Mugabe is Like Prophet Moses in The Bible: Mnangagwa

mnangagwa

President Robert Mugabe on Friday left thousands of his supporters bemused after he quickly dashed to eat yogurt, some crisps and gulped a glass of red juice immediately after his hour long lecture at a star rally here.

The 89-year-old president could be seen scooping the yogurt while his wife, Grace addressed Zanu PF supporters who had been bussed from all over the Midlands province.Mugabe, who was introduced at the rally by Defence minister, Emmerson Mnangagwa as the “biblical Moses”, is rarely seen eating in public.

Zanu PF presidential candidate, whose feet clearly looked swollen in his brown shoes, admitted at the rally that he was frail.

“When we hoisted the new Zimbabwe flag on April 1980, I was the prime minister, during that time I was a young man then filled with energy, not like now [ndanga ndichikutemwa dzinobvaropa],” he said. Mugabe also clearly struggled to wave his cap towards his supporters as he arrived at the back of an open truck.

Mnangagwa boasted that his province had organised the biggest rally of all provinces outdoing Manicaland and Masvingo.

“Welcome Moses who has come here to take us from the land of slavery to the land of milk and honey, he gave us the land, mines and now companies. Midlands is the best province if you see the people here they are more than those who attended the Masvingo and Manicaland rallies combined,” said Mnangagwa.

Meanwhile, Zesa employees worked through the night on Thursday to install new power lines leading to the venue where Mugabe addressed his rally. Power lines were drawn from Mkoba Teachers college into Mkoba 12 open space and a new transformer installed to power the public address system and ZBC equipment used to broadcast the rally live.

TelOne staff were also on standby to ensure that uplink connections and internet were working, while the Ministry of Roads opened roads to ensure that the motorcade rolled smoothly to the VIP tent.

LUSAKA – Livingstone police and other security officers on Wednesday rounded up about 76 sex workers from various lodges within the tourist city.

Southern Province Police Commissioner Charity Katanga, who confirmed this in Livingstone yesterday, said after detaining and scrutinising the suspects, others were released while 62 who included 35 males, were remanded in police custody and charged with idle and disorderly conduct.

She said 14 suspects were Zimbabwean nationals who had since been handed over to the Immigration Department to determine the legality of their stay in Zambia.

Katanga said some sex workers were found with mbanje and would be handed over to the Drug Enforcement Commission.

“The operation was carried out on Wednesday after 8pm upon receiving complaints from some members of the public that there was an influx of sex workers in the tourist capital ahead of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) General Assembly,” Katanga said.

She said operations in lodges and other entities would intensify as the city prepared to co-host the UNWTO conference with Zimbabwe next month. Katanga warned lodge and guest house owners to avoid allowing dishonest guests to avoid offending the law.
